This is the most exotic and thrilling trek, mystical and mythical, uniquely endowed with the ecological and geological wonders astoundingly combined with the natural treasures, amazing religious rituals and unparallel cultural heritage of a fabled and forbidden kingdom. The bizarre and weird desolated landscapes with sculpted canyons and wild rock formations, deepest gorges, picturesque ultra remote medieval villages inhabited by gracious happily traditional folk of Tibetan descent with colorful-painted mud brick houses, incredible fortresses and palaces, ancient cave hermitages, fabulous yak caravans, sacred Tibetan Buddhist monasteries and mythical pilgrimage site, home for some rare endangered species – snow leopard, blue sheep and the mythical abominable snowman ‘Yeti’, on the back dropped panoramic view of stunning snow-peaks Annapurna, Dhaulagiri and Nilgiri makes your medieval walled kingdom Mustang trekking a very especial one, a highly rewarding one, an unforgettable Grand Tour. Mustang has lured intrepid travelers to its remote realm for centuries, but only the most adventurous made it to this mountainous and inaccessible bastion of Tibetan Buddhism, to this remote and starkly beautiful region. The historical remote Mustang trek unseal the once Forbidden Kingdom of Mustang, tucked away from the rest of the world, lies just north of the main Himalayan range of Nepal within the Annapurna-Daulagiri rain shadow. The fabled Mustang is quintessentially Tibetan in character and to date largely unspoiled. This mythical land north of the 8000 meter peaks Annapurna and Dhaulagiri still requires a special restricted area permit to enter, and numbers are limited, thus helping to protect and conserve the unique local Tibetan tradition and the fragile environment. Mustang, a land where the soul of the man is still considered to be as real as the feet he walks on: a land said to be "barren as a dead deer" but where beauty and happiness abound in spite of hardship, was a part of the Tibetan Kingdom of Gungthang until 1830's. The walled city of Lo Monthang, unofficial capital of Mustang still remains a kingdom and its early history is mysteriously embellished in myth and legend rather than the recorded fact.
After exploring the fabulous historical and cultural sites of the medieval capital city of Kathmandu, we fly west to the small loving town of Pokhara, one of the most viewblessed places on the planet, and on to Jomsom, where we leave the lushness of the foothills for the austerity of the Himalayan rainshadow, working our way farther north into Kagbeni along the world’s deepest river gorge of Kali Gandak and Tsarang and ultimately into Mustang proper and the traditional enclave of Lo Manthang, where we’ll have a couple of days to wander its dusty streets and visit its sacred ancient shrines and monasteries and cultural encounters with the local people and festivities. The TIJI festival is a “The chasing of the Demons” ritual, one of the most spectacular and fabulous festivals of the region. Now on to Yara and the Luri Gompa, hiking through grand Himalayan precincts, and back south to a popular and a very sacred pilgrimage site of Muktinath, a much-sought village on the Annapurna Circuit, then fly back to Jomsom and the luxuries and magic of Kathmandu.
