Trip Facts

  • Duration:22 Days
  • Grade:Moderate
  • Activity: Trekking
This is an absolute classic adventure through the breathtaking and awesome landscape on earth to the base of the world’s fifth highest mountain Makalu (8475m). It is a perfect combination of unparallel scenic grandeur, ecological wonders, startling mountain biodiversity, fabulous wildlife and exciting ethnic encounters. The trip makes a high mountain traverse across Barun Glacier from Makalu base camp emerging into Hinku valley and finally into the high alpine valley of Khumbu across the most challenging East Col (6100 m) and West Col (6135m) with truly regal and sensational views of the 8000-ers Cho Oyo (8153m) Lhotse (8501m), Everest (8848m), Makalu (8475m) and Kangchenjunga (8586m). It provides stunning contrasts, where high waterfalls cascade into deep gorges, craggy rocks rise from lush green forests, and colorful flowers bloom beneath white snow peaks. This unique landscape shelters some of the last pristine mountain ecosystems on earth. Rare species of animals and plants flourish in diverse climates and habitats, untouched and undisturbed. The adventure through the spectacular Makalu-Barun National Park, a vital component of the greater Mount Everest ecosystem, is an incredible experience. This is a challenging and strenuous trek, a remote wilderness, involving a sustained period at high altitude is intended more for true adventurous nature lovers with alpine experience and good stamina.
